Project Brief
Squaring Off Old Archways for a Modern Look
At RAEC Plasterboards, we pride ourselves on transforming homes with precision and care. One of our popular services is squaring off old archways to create a modern, clean look. Here's a detailed overview of a recent project where we updated an outdated archway to enhance the aesthetic appeal and functionality of a client's home.
Products Used
- Plasterboard: For a smooth, durable surface.
- Perforated Metal External Angles: Used to strengthen the corners of plasterboard walls, providing support and protecting them from impact damage
- Basecoat 45: Ensures a strong foundation for the subsequent layers.
- CSR Ultratop Topping Compound: Offers a flawless topcoat finish.
Workflow
1. Cutting Out the Existing Archway
- We carefully cut out the existing archway to create a square opening, ensuring precise measurements for a clean, professional result.
2. Framing Out the New Entry
- We frame the new entry to provide structural support and prepare for the installation of plasterboard.
3. Plasterboard Installation
- New plasterboard is installed to create a smooth surface. The edges are finished with 90-degree perforated metal external angles to strengthen the corners and provide support at wall intersections.
4. Flushing to a Level 4 Finish
- We flush the new plasterboard to a level 4 finish, using Basecoat 45 for the initial layers and CSR Ultratop topping compound for the topcoat. This process ensures a smooth and flawless surface ready for painting.
5. Sanding and Preparation for Paint
- The new archway is carefully sanded to a perfect finish, making it ready for painting.
Conclusion
Squaring off old archways is a fantastic way to modernise your home, giving it a fresh and updated look. At RAEC Plasterboards, we ensure every project is completed with the highest standards of craftsmanship and attention to detail.
